Birds spotted at the new house...

Even though we moved less than two miles, the terrain at this house is different enough - woods, the river, barn, open pasture - that we are seeing a lot of birds we either have never seen or only spotted rarely at the old house.

I don't have a big telephoto lens but this Tree Swallow let me get close enough to take his picture. This same day we saw a stunning pair of Orioles and a huge Pileated Woodpecker.

I had never seen an Eastern Towhee before (had to look it up) but saw one the other day. Residents on the property include Eastern Wood Peewees, Barn Swallows, Coopers and Red-tail Hawks, Bluebirds and a variety of ducks and other waterfowl down by the river.

I don't think a day has gone by when I haven't seen something new and interesting that makes me think how lucky we are to have found this place.

Oh, how fun! All we have are pigeons, and they're not very pretty. My dream is to move to the country. Winnie, do you have any extra room at your house? I promise to cuddle for room-and-board.

Kisses,
Laila

Sounds like a great area--we too enjoy bird watching, and have many of the birds you have mentioned vist us also. What we have the most fun with are the hummingbirds. We have found that the more feeders you put up, the more hummingbirds will eventually end up in the area. does not take much effort...1/4 cup sugar to 1 cup water, boil, mix, cool and change often in the hot weather. No need to add food coloring. Also orange slices hung in a suit feeder will attract the orioles. Really nice picture....time to build bird houses!!!! Cassie starts obedience Tuesday!! Chris

We had hummingbirds at the other house but none here yet. I think we have a feeder we should start putting out there soon.

Have a blast with Cassie in obedience! Seems like she's got a great temperament for that, I bet you do GREAT!
