Pointing in the yard

While the true training value of having your dog point a quail wing tied to a stick in your back yard is, at best, minimal, it was a fun way to spend some time with Winnie and try to take some new pictures. Although I have brought her to fields where I know dove are present (because we scare them off with regularity), she had never been close enough for me to get a feel for whether or not she knows birds exist and whether or not they are interesting.

I have to say, as mellow as this dog is, she was very animated at the sight and scent of the wing...

Very cute! Tucker used to be fascinated with the wild turkey feathers he would find in the yard and out in the woods and would never give them up once he got hold of them.

She is adorable! I wasn't brave enough to get a pup: I got Rooster as a started pup at 6 months. Winnie looks like she'll be a great gun dog.

I don't know if 'brave' is the right word. But I've learned a lot about puppies in Winnie's first weeks with us. But she's been basically the ideal puppy from day one. I couldn't be luckier.
